Abstract
This Briefing Note summarizes the start-up phase of the Young Impact Associates (YIA) Programme (Cohort 1), designed to cultivate the next generation of African evaluation leaders. Findings from five countries showed design benefits but revealed challenges like the need for clearer expectations, balancing varied associate experience, and ensuring equitable experience for vulnerable groups. Mandatory safeguarding reviews were recommended.
