Abstract
This brief summarizes findings from the first three years of The Imprint of Education (TIE), a five-year longitudinal cohort study of Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program Alumni (from selected African countries and cohorts) conducted by the Human Sciences Research Council. The study examines several topics, including ethical and transformative leadership; giving back; livelihoods (that is, employment, dignified and fulfilling work, and entrepreneurship); identity; mentoring; and transitions. These topics are explored with the aim of understanding the impacts of a high-quality education on academically gifted students who also face the highest social and economic barriers to opportunity.
