Abstract
This report details the state of client protection in Rwanda's microfinance sector, based on assessments against the Smart Campaign's Client Protection Principles. It finds that while a solid regulatory framework and industry code of conduct exist, there are major gaps in implementation, particularly concerning fair and respectful treatment, client data privacy, and complaint resolution mechanisms. Areas addressed by regulation, like preventing over-indebtedness and transparency, show stronger practices but still need improvement. The document concludes that achieving full compliance is a work in progress, requiring coordinated effort from sector stakeholders.
