- Abstract
- This report synopsis (collected version, translated in French) examines how secondary education can equip Africa’s growing youth population with the skills needed for a rapidly changing world of work. With Africa projected to have the world’s largest youth population by 2075, the report emphasizes that expanding access to high-quality, relevant, and inclusive secondary education is critical to unlocking a demographic dividend and promoting economic transformation. Overall, the report highlights the need for curricula that integrate 21st-century, digital, and entrepreneurial skills, alongside improved teacher training and flexible education systems that accommodate out-of-school youth. The report also explores how to reform education governance, finance systems equitably, and foster innovation to ensure young people—especially girls—are prepared for productive work and leadership. Drawing on case studies and consultations across the continent, the report outlines practical recommendations for governments, educators, and private sector partners to collaborate in strengthening education for the future. Ultimately, it positions secondary education as a cornerstone for achieving inclusive growth, employment, and sustainable development across Africa.
