Abstract
This document is a study that examines secondary education reform in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) since 2007, focusing on curriculum, assessment systems, and national qualifications frameworks (NQFs). Using case studies of South Africa and Ethiopia, it explores "big idea" reforms including Competency-Based Education, the promotion of 21st-century skills, and the shift from knowledge to skills-based learning. The analysis highlights successes, challenges, and the impact of these reforms on employability and education quality in resource-constrained contexts.
