Abstract
This report presents a Creative Sector Diagnostic Study commissioned by the Mastercard Foundation to inform its country strategy in Kenya. It evaluates the potential of the creative economy—including Film & Television, Music, Fashion, and Digital Media—as a significant source of meaningful employment for young people. The diagnostic particularly focuses on enhancing the participation of young women, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and refugees. Challenges hindering growth across these sub-sectors include lack of capital, underdeveloped distribution networks, piracy, and weak enforcement of relevant policies. To accelerate job creation and build resilience, the report recommends targeted investment in technical and business skills training, the establishment of an endowment fund, and capacity support for creative institutions.
