- Abstract
- The “BRAC Uganda: What Are We Learning” (June 2013) report reviews the progress and impact of BRAC’s partnership with the Mastercard Foundation to expand BRAC’s integrated development model in Uganda. The initiative combines microfinance, agriculture, health, and adolescent empowerment programs to reduce poverty and improve livelihoods. By 2013, BRAC had reached over 2.8 million people, demonstrating that combining credit with livelihood services achieves stronger results than microfinance alone. The Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program notably improved education, employment, and health outcomes for young women. Agricultural and health programs also boosted productivity and reduced disease. The report highlights BRAC Uganda’s organizational effectiveness, community impact, and challenges around savings access, staff localization, and long-term sustainability.
