Abstract
This article, published on November 5, 2021, discusses how Mastercard Foundation Scholars Derrick Tumuhairwe and Jovia Nazziwa formed Africa Well Able (AWA) in Uganda to fight period stigma, which hinders girls’ education. AWA educates youth on menstruation and hygiene, and teaches boys and girls to sew reusable sanitary pads for sustainability and income. AWA aims to reach two million girls with reproductive health education.
