- Abstract
- This article, published on March 19, 2021, discusses the unequal burden the COVID-19 pandemic placed on women, noting increases in unpaid care work, domestic violence, and job vulnerability. Young women leaders from the Mastercard Foundation Alumni Network advocate that post-COVID recovery must prioritize gender equity. They demand policies supporting economic empowerment (like low-interest loans and tax cuts) and increased representation of women in governance, highlighting that women under 30 constitute less than one percent of parliamentarians globally. Leaders also must encourage women in Tech/STEM careers. The fundamental message is that policymakers must listen to young women, whose insights are crucial for building a stronger, more inclusive post-pandemic future.
