- Abstract
- This article, published on October 13, 2025, discuss the critical role of Sudanese youth-led organizations in responding to the ongoing conflict in Sudan, which has caused mass displacement and the collapse of essential services. It highlights that as international development organizations withdrew due to insecurity, local youth-led groups stepped in to fill the massive resulting gap. These groups, including those both inside Sudan and in the diaspora, have established vital networks like Emergency Response Rooms (ERRs) to provide essential services, support over four million civilians, and offer innovative, community-driven solutions such as repairing infrastructure and establishing safe escape routes. Despite their significant impact, the source notes that these local organizations receive less than 0.2% of direct humanitarian funding, emphasizing their ability to leverage local networks and cut through bureaucracy. Finally, the text describes a recent Mastercard Foundation session convened to explore better ways to support these young leaders, focusing on trust-based, locally driven partnerships for sustaining recovery.
