Abstract
This document presents findings and lessons from the Youth Microfinance (YMF) Project, which aimed to empower young people socially and economically by increasing access to financial services and enhancing their skills. This discussion paper triangulates various monitoring and evaluation outputs to identify relevant lessons for Plan International and the wider development community. The YMF Project implemented an integrated program pathway involving youth savings and loan associations (YSLAs), life skills and financial education training, and in Senegal, a pilot linkage with a microfinance institution. The project's success in outreach and its impact on income generation, saving, asset accumulation, and self-confidence are highlighted. Key lessons learned include the importance of community integration, gender sensitivity, and effective delivery of training for future initiatives. This aligns with our earlier discussion on the importance of preserving and learning from institutional memory to improve future endeavours.
