Abstract
This paper explores the transformative potential of agribusiness in Sub-Saharan Africa as a pathway for economic growth, youth employment, and poverty reduction. With over 60% of Africa's population under 25 and the majority living in rural areas, agribusiness presents a critical opportunity to generate sustainable livelihoods. The study emphasizes the importance of value chain development, innovation systems, and enterprise training, especially for youth and women, to enhance productivity and competitiveness. Key strategies include fostering agro-processing, developing market linkages, strengthening cooperatives, and leveraging ICTs to bridge gaps in knowledge and market access. It also highlights successful models like the Songhai initiative and agribusiness incubators that support local entrepreneurship. Addressing systemic challenges—such as limited access to capital, land, and training—can enable inclusive growth. The report underscores that context-specific, youth-centered, and innovation-driven agribusiness development is essential for the region’s long-term socio-economic transformation.
