The March 31, 2010, Board Meeting included discussions on various programs and initiatives. A key focus was on expanding access to microfinance and youth learning through innovation, scaling successful programs in Africa, measuring impact, and partnerships. The Foundation's communication strategy aimed to reach key audiences such as microfinance, education, and philanthropy leaders, major donors, NGOs, educational institutions, and media outlets.
The meeting addressed specific projects including:
1) Enabling recovery in Haiti by partnering with experienced organizations like Fonkoze and MEDA to provide core support and expand programs for the poorest clients.
2) BRAC's progress in Uganda, showcasing the "microfinance multiplied" approach and its positive impact on livelihoods and poverty reduction.
3) A global study on youth savings led by Save the Children, aiming to provide sustainable savings services to 170,000 low-income youth.
4) Microfinance Transparency’s initiative to improve pricing and interest rate transparency of microcredit products in eight African countries.
The Board also discussed a potential $100 million secondary education program and the creation of university-based Centers of Excellence. Additionally, the Board approved grants for MEDA, Save the Children and Microfinance Transparency. The Foundation's investment portfolio and financial statements were also reviewed.
